Homemade Almond Butter

I got inspired today to try my hand at homemade almond butter. At $5+ a jar, it gets costly around here with the amount of nut butters we go through. I found a recipe here and it sounded simple enough, and didn't REQUIRE a Vitamix or something fancy. My Cuisinart did smoke at the end, though. Hmm. This is easy and delicious. I ended up adding 2 extra tbsp of oil (!) and a tbsp of honey to the liquid. It's a grainier texture than store-bought, but just as good if not better. We had it with Rocky Mountain Farm's Cherry Jam on homemade (local flour) bread. Oh yeah. Next up, cashew butter.

What a great idea! I recently paid $6 for locally made PEANUT butter (Justin's) so I will definitely try my hand at making my own nut butter. My husband has already requested almond. :D

Mmmm, almond butter... I wonder if you could have used hot water instead of oil.

I hope your Cuisinart is ok! Did you do small batches or everything all at once? I might try that with my breville blender -- I make cashew cream all the time anyway...

I hope your Cuisinart survived. Have you made more almond butter since this pots? From my experience, you don't need to add any oil if you'll just let the food processor run for long enough.

Um, I meant "post," of course, not "pots."
