Haiti

Thank you to all who donated to Ted's birthday Haiti fun!

Dear Ted,

In the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquakes in Haiti, the American Red Cross stands with our Red Cross and Red Crescent partners around the globe to transform your donation into relief and recovery. Our combined efforts represent the largest single-country relief operation in Red Cross history. Thank you for being a part of this monumental response effort.

Together, we have:

  • Delivered critical relief supplies like blankets, hygiene kits, and mosquito nets to 1.3 million people
  • Provided safe, clean drinking water daily in a program that, at its peak, served 300,000 people
  • Supported an immunization and hygiene promotion campaign that will ensure the health of 250,000 children
  • Placed more than 600 Red Cross and Red Crescent relief workers on the ground in Haiti
The American Red Cross stands ready to provide further assistance and will remain in Haiti until the job is done. We are grateful to have your support that brings hope and comfort to those affected by these devastating earthquakes. As the response evolves, please visit http://www.redcross.org/haiti/ or call 1-800-797-8022 to learn more about your gift at work. Once again, thank you for your compassionate support of the American Red Cross.

Sincerely,

The American Red Cross

Spring!

Spring has sprung! And with it, our health is slowly coming back. I'm so sorry for the lack of posts. Between the deal falling through on our house, lots of subbing and the weird flu that morphed into a cold, I've been out of commission for a while. But it was 67 degrees and sunny today and things are looking up. We're going to the zoo tomorrow, to enjoy this beautiful weather.

We spent the weekend, when we weren't coughing, sneezing or napping, outside soaking up the sun. We were at the park for hours on Sunday. Saturday the kids spent most of the day creating things from funfusion beads. I love these things. Friday I kept everyone home from the last day of school because there was a blizzard. They played outside a lot on Friday and let me nap.

Sam has a lot of news. He got his special glasses last week. He has the same issues as Ted (tracking and convergence with far-sightedness) but is also severely light sensitive, which makes his eyelids spasm (the fancy word for this condition is benign essential blepharospasm). We all think he looks like John Lennon. He was also in his K/1 play last week, which was adorable. They did Puff the Magic Dragon and I nearly died of the cuteness.

Sam and Mae have both dived head first into TaeKwonDo. So far, so good. If all three could actually be involved in the same activity, I'd be thrilled. Mae wants to do the next tournament so that will be cute. Nothing like gigantic trophies for teeny little ninjas.

Enjoy this beautiful weather!

8

Ted turns 8 years old at 9:45am today.
Paul and I spent last night reading his baby book and perusing the blog. WOW ... the memories.
Those first few months of Ted's life were truly special - nothing to do but gaze at him in adoration. Before he turned 2, he was an angel. Then the more challenging character traits began to emerge - traits that will serve him well as an adult. He is strong-willed, determined, sensitive and fiercely independent.
But more often than not, the sweetness will shine through his tough guy demeanor.
And then he is my baby again. He always will be, I suppose.
My first born, my baby, my son ... when I stop to think of how much I love him, it is almost overwhelming.
Happy 8th birthday, sweetheart. We love you so very much.
